Delhi Traffic Police issued 319 challans on the final day of the road rationing scheme odd even on Friday.
As per the official data, a total number of 3709 challans were issued during the entire odd even scheme. These challans were issued by transport officials Delhi Traffic Police and revenue officials.
Also, the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that the car curbing scheme will be extended if the air quality index will remain poor in the weekends on Saturday and Sunday. “As per the experts, it has been predicted that the pollution level decrease and will improve in the coming days. We will wait and observe till the weekends, if its remains the same, the decision on extending the odd even scheme will be decided on Monday by the Government,” he said.
The Odd Even scheme was implemented for 12 days from 4th to 15th November to curb vehicular emissions to control the increasing level of air pollution in the Natioal Capital. However, the scheme was suspended for the two days on 11th and 12th November for the celebrations of 550th Guru Nanak Jayanti.
Further, to run the campaign smoothly, the government had deployed a total number of 200 Traffic Police, 200 transport officials and 65 revenue officials.
This year the AAP Government has also doubled the penalty fees for the violation of the odd even scheme to Rs 4000 from Rs 2000. The odd even scheme was first implemented in the year 2016 to control the increasing level air pollution by the vehicular emissions. The ridership in Delhi metro trains increased to 58.36 Lakh in one day while was 50.13 Lakh for the entire week prior the implementation of odd even scheme.
