Within days after the State Home department accepted his resignation, Mumbai’s former senior police inspector and yesteryear’s prominent encounter-specialist Pradeep Sharma formally joined the Shiv Sena on Friday.
In a development that came ahead of the Election Commission declaring the schedule for the Maharashtra Assembly polls, 57-year-old Sharma joined the Shiv Sena in the presence of Sena president Uddhav Thackeray.
Thackeray welcomed Sharma into the Sena, tied him a ‘Shiv-Bandhan’ and handed him party flag.
The Shiv Sena will in likelihood field Sharma as its candidate from Nala Sophara constituency located on the outskirts of Mumbai. This constituency has a large number of north-Indian immigrants.
Sharma had resigned from the police service in the second week of July this year after nearly 36 years of service marred by many controversies.
