Vayu: W Railways cancels 88 trains

The Western Railway on Thursday chose not to take any chances in view of the alert over the Cyclone Vayu , as it cancelled fully the operation of 88 mainline trains, while it short-terminated/ short-orginated 40 other mainline trains as a precautionary measure. 

With Thursday’s cancellations and short-terminations, the total number of long-distance trains affected by the cyclone Vayu-triggered inclement weather conditionsm the total number trains affected since Wednesday went up 128. 

The Western Railway continued to take precautionary measures on the second consecutive day on Thursday, even as Cyclone Vayu spared Gujarat.

Till Wednesday, 77 mainline trains had been cancelled while 33 were short terminated by Western Railway in view of cyclone. On Thursday, 11 more trains were cancelled while seven more trains were scheduled to be short terminated/short originated with partial cancellation, as a precautionary measure in the cyclone prone areas. “Various safety and security precautions are also being taken by WR for train passengers of these cyclone prone areas under the jurisdiction of WR i.e. Veraval, Okha, Porbandar, Bhavnagar, Bhuj and Gandhidham, etc,” the WR spokesperson said. Two special trains from Okha were run to evacuate affected people in coastal area, while eight special coaching rakes were kept in readiness at Ghandhidham, Bhuj, Khambalia, Adri, Botad, Ranavav, Wansjaliya & Bhavnagar stations on Western Railway to evacuate people affected with VAYU in the coastal area.
