In a gang war between the notorious Manjeet Mahal gang and his rival splinter group in South-western part of the national Capital, two gangsters were killed near Dwarka Mor Metro station on Sunday between 3.45 pm and 4 pm.
While one gangster was killed in the shootout between the rival gangs, the second one was gunned down by police personnel of a Police Control Room (PCR) van which had reached the spot after being informed about the shootout that rattled passersby at the busiest section connecting Dwarka Mor with Uttam Nagar. More than 20 rounds were fired in the gang war.
The bodies of the two slain gangsters were taken for autopsy in West Delhi and sleuths from Crime Branch and Special Cell are in hunt of gangsters who manage to flee the spot.
The deceased have been identified as Praveen Gahlot, a member of Manjeet gang, and his rival Vikas Dalal, who had run away from Haryana Police custody in October.
“A few days ago Vikas had shot one of his former accomplices in Vasant Kunj. He is being treated in a Gurugram hospital,” said sources.
A senior police official said, “Praveen Gahlot was sitting in his car near Dwarka Mor metro station when a Swift car arrived and three men started firing at Praveen. Praveen died on the spot.”
“A PCR van after hearing the gunshot rushed to the spot. The police personnel warned the gangsters but they started firing at the patrolling team following which police shot three times in which one of the gangster Vikas was injured. He was rushed to nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Meanwhile during cross firing other two gangsters who had come with Vikas manage to flee from the spot,” said the senior police official.
