Worried over the poll outcome in Jammu & Kashmir, former alliance partners — Congress and the National Conference — on Wednesday brokered a “poll deal” to ensure victory of their “joint” candidates “by hook or by crook” in the LS polls.
Addressing a joint Press conference, Farooq Abdullah told reporters, “National Conference will contest all three Lok Sabha seats from Kashmir Valley... We are coming together to defeat our rival parties by hook or by crook.”
The ice was broken after hectic parleys at the residence of National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah in Jammu.
The Congress team was led by Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ambika Soni, JKPCC chief GA Mir and former Minister Rigzin Zora while senior National Conference leaders Mohd Shafti Uri, Devender Singh Rana and Nasir Aslam Wani accompanied Abdullah during the final round of discussions.
However, in order to strengthen the secular front in the State the alliance partners will enter into a “friendly contest” on two Lok Sabha seats of Baramulla and Anantnag.
