Now, you can clock 70km/hr on NH-9 stretch within Delhi

The Delhi Government has notified the proposal of the Delhi Police to raise the maximum speed limit on the National Highway (NH-9) (earlier NH-24) from Millennium Park to Ghazipur Border from 60 kmph to 70 kmph for light vehicles such as car, jeep and two-wheelers.

However, the speed limit for the heavy motor vehicles such as goods carriage remains the same, 40 kmph.

The notification comes days after the decision of the traffic police to cancel the 1.4 lakh challans issued for “speeding” on NH-9 — between Millennium Park and Ghazipur — since August as the speed cameras on the stretch were not calibrated to allow 60kmph as maximum limit.

As per the officials, the Delhi Traffic Police is also in discussion with the Transport Department to explore ways to refund the money to the commuters who have paid fines through e-court.

Besides, the decision was also taken following the complaints of the commuters, who continuously raised the matter and confusion over the speed limits set up by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

“Moreover, many commuters complaint that sign boards installed by the civic agency is 70 kmph, while the traffic police issued challan following the norms of 60 kmph. Following, which the traffic police decided to go by the limits set up by the NHAI,” said an official.
