AAP vows mandir wahi banayengey

A day after Dalits organised a rally to protest the demolition of Sant Ravidas temple in Tughlakabad by the Delhi Development Authority on the Supreme Court order, the Delhi Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution to reconstruct the temple at the “same spot” and demanded that the Central Government to bring an ordinance to transfer the land right for Sant Ravidas temple.

The Assembly demanded that the Centre should file a review petition before the Supreme Court.

The resolution moved by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stated, “The site was donated by the Afgan monarch Sikander Lodhi to Sant Ravidas, who is widely worshipped by the Dalit and other communities. This is a historically significant site which Sant Ravidas visited and lived for some time and forms a part of Dalit struggle for identity and rights. Demolishing this temple not only crushes the religious sentiments but also the history of Dalit struggle.”

“Thus, the House resolves that the Central Government has badly mishandled this issue by not supporting their cause in the court of law which finally led to its unjustified and unfortunate demolition,” it said.

Addressing the House after the resolution was moved, Kejriwal said Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP) Government will construct the temple irrespective of the cost.

“I am ready to give 100 acre in exchange of the four acre where the temple was located, respecting the sentiments of people, we want the temple should be constructed on the same location,” said Kejriwal.

“Guru Ravidas lived there and his vibrations are still alive. There is a significance of the land where the temple was exist,” Kejriwal added.

“Central government, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Lieutenant Governor are the main party in this case and they may file a review petition in the Court,” the CM said.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Assembly was adjourned twice as soon its proceedings commenced as AAP Members of Legislative Assembly (MLA’s) created ruckus by raising slogans ‘Santo ka apmaan band karo’, ‘BJP Dalit Virodhi, BJP haay, haay’ and protested over the demolition of the Ravidas Temple at Tuglakabad

AAP MLAs went near the podium of the Legislative Assembly speaker Ram Nivas Goel holding charts and raised slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and raised slogans such as ‘Hardeep Puri Murdabad’. When the AAP MLA’s refused to calm down and sit on their respected seats, the speaker adjourned the meeting twice.

Moreover, another leader of AAP, Ajay Dutt tore his shirt shouting slogans demanding restoration of the temple and said restore ‘our temple or kill us’.

Following the Apex Court, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on August 9 demolished the temple and AAP is following the protest since then.

“The Ravidas Temple was a heritage site with a history of 600 years old. The temple was constructed and committee was formed even before the formation of DDA. This action of the centre is one of the most sensitive and serious issue. The temple should be restored and the centre should allot the land back to the committee to construct the Guru Das temple. The Dalit people will not be oppressed and the entire nation and world is supporting us,” said Rajendra Pal Gautam, Minister of Social Welfare and Justice and Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST), other Backward Caste (OBC) and Minority Committee.

Meanwhile, the BJP leader and MLA of Vishwas Nagar, Om Prakash Sharma, said the party has nothing to do with it and we respect the community. It was the decision of Supreme Court and we also are in favor that the temple should be restored respecting the sentiments of the community.

On Thursday, Chandrashekhar Azad along with 95 other protestors has been sent to judicial custody following the charges of rioting, attempt to murder and unlawful assembly. The Dalit leader and around 95 others were detained on Wednesday night from Tughlaqabad area after protest by Dalits against the demolition of a Ravidas temple turned violent, prompting police to resort to “mild lathicharge” and use tear gas to disperse the crowd.

However, Ahosk Bharti, the convenor of the Akhil Bhartiya Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas Mandir Sanyukt Sanrakshan Samiti said that the Dalit body had given a call for a peaceful protest in the Ramlila Maidan, but some people decided to proceed to the disputed site.

“Now we will raise the demand with slogan ‘Mandir Yahi Bnayenge”. We will do it sooner or later, but in a peaceful manner,” Bharti added.
