Student rams his Mercedes into Wagon R in Delhi, 2 hurt
After jumping a red light in South Delhi’s Greater Kailash 1, a 19-year-old college student rammed his Mercedes into a Wagon R in which three CRPF jawans were travelling leading to the death of a 32-year-old constable attached with the Prime Minister’s security detail, police said on Friday, adding, two troopers were injured.
Constable Narender Baswal (34) succumbed to injuries at AIIMS Trauma Centre around 8.30 am on Friday while Vinod Kumar (36) and Babulal Yadav (38) were discharged after treatment. All three constables were with the Special Duty Group (SDG) of CRPF deployed at outer cordon in PMO and SPG protectees.
According to Vijay Kumar, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South district, the incident took place at Archana crossing in GK-I around 11 pm on Thursday and accused Sanidhya Garg, who is pursuing an undergraduate course from London, is currently on vacation.
“The Mercedes was being driven by Garg, a resident of Model Town-2. It was coming from the Siri Fort road side when it jumped a red light and hit the Wagon R which was being driven by Constable Vinod. Their vehicle was coming from Moolchand side and heading towards Chirag Delhi,” said the DCP.
“A call was received on PCR at 10.59 pm regarding an accident,” he said.
The DCP said Garg’s medical examination showed no presence of alcohol.
“Garg did not suffer any injuries as he was protected by the air bags in the car,” said the police official privy to investigation.
The Wagon R belongs to Vinod, who was driving it at the time of the accident, and Baswal was sitting at the back. “After being hit by another car, our vehicle toppled twice. When I regained consciousness, I saw Narendra was unconscious and Yadav was injured but conscious. I got out of the car and tried to remove others too but couldn’t,” said Vinod.
The police official said Garg was on his back home to Model Town after visiting his grandmother in Saket.
The accused father Ashish Garg runs an iron business and the car is registered under his name, said police.
“On Vinod’s complaint, a case has been registered under sections 304 A (causing death by negligence), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life) and 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against him at Greater Kailash police station.
However, the accused was released on bail by police on the very same night of the incident.
The deceased Narendra hailed from Kishangarh near Alwar (Rajasthan) and is survived by two children and a wife. He had joined CRPF as a constable in 2004.
A senior CRPF official said in an unfortunate incident Narender died in AIIMS on Saturday morning. “He was posted in SDG (Special Duty Group) a specialised unit of CRPF deployed as outer cordon in PMH, PMO and SPG protectees. CRPF will take care of the family and pay all dues / exgratia admissible to him to NOK,” said the senior CRPF official.
