Everyone experiences stomachache at one point or another which may be due to heartburn, indigestion, infection and overeating. ROSHANI DEVI shares home remedies to soothe the pain woes

Next time you have a stomachache, instead of reaching for a bottle of pills, try natural and holistic  remedies to cure it.

Every household has ginger. Yes, this underground stem is a cure for many problems including a stomachache. Grate an inch of ginger and extract its juice. Apply this on the aching tummy and massage in circular motion to get relief from the pain. One can also drink a glass of warm water with crushed mint leaves and ground ginger root to bring instant relief.

It may sound strange but this is water we give to babies when they have an upset tummy. Drink the left over rice water to get rid of upper stomach pain. When you boil rice in water, it releases compounds that can accumulate inside your stomach which reduces the pain. It is extremely beneficial when you have diarrhoea. Add some honey for flavour.

Coconut water contains high levels of potassium and magnesium. These help to reduce pain and muscle spasms.

Sip on up to two glasses of coconut water every 4–6 hours could ease upset stomach symptoms.

If you have a mild stomach pain, mix a teaspoon of baking soda in 120 ml of warm water and drink it. The stomachache will soon vanish.
