Tired of eating medicine for acidity with no results?  ROSHANI DEVI shares home remedies that can help the growing problem that many face today, due to unhealthy eating habits

There is a reason why our grandparents ate certain kind of fruits, vegetables and herbs. These not only meant that they led a healthier lifestyle than ours, it also took care of a lot of other problems like acidity.

Many people recommend that one eats a banana at least once a day because it is good for the stomach and helps reduce bloating. The fibre ensures that smooth movement in the intestines.

We all know how good aloe vera is for our health. The juice of the plant can soothe the stomach lining.

If your system doesn’t allow you to eat a banana try citrus fruits like an orange to neutralise the acidity.

Curd helps as well. It has natural bacteria that keeps the digestive system healthy.

Basil leaves or tulsi can give you instant relief from acidity. Ensure that you clean the leaves before. Eat a few leaves or boil three-four of them in a cup of water for a few minutes. Sip on the liquid frequently.

Then there is the good old chhach or buttermilk. Next time you get acidity drink a glass of it. Buttermilk contains lactic acid that normalises acidity. Add black pepper and or a teaspoon of ground coriander leaves.

A sure shot cure for acidity is organic apple cider vinegar. It has got alkalising effect even though it is acidic. Add apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink it before meals.
