Duleep Trophy opener ends in draw

Bengaluru: The rain-marred Duleep Trophy opener here between India Blue and India Green ended in a draw on Tuesday after three days were washed out. The match ended without even the first innings being completed, and both teams got a point each. After the opening day's proceedings started late on Saturday owing to overnight rain and saw 49 overs being bowled, play on the other days were called off without a ball being bowled. Only 49 overs were bowled in the entire match. On a truncated opening day, India Green had reduced India Blue to 112 for six. India Red play India Blue in the next match beginning on August 23 at Alur.

Priyam named India U-23 captain

New Delhi: Priyam Garg will captain the India U-23 team in the home series beginning against Bangladesh U-23 beginning September 19 in Raipur. All the five games of the series will be played in Raipur. Garg had captained the India U-19 squad in the recently held youth ODI series in the UK. Yashasvi Jawal too was part of the U-19 squad. The squad also includes Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar who were part of the Kings XI Punjab squad in IPL 2019. Bengal's U-23 captain Ritwik Roy Choudhary, considered a handy all-rounder, has also been included for leading the team to National U-23 final. The selectors picked the squad after considering the performances of the U-19 series in the UK and CK Nayudu Trophy.

Dembele adds to Barca's woes

Barcelona: Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele will miss five weeks after suffering a hamstring injury, the club said. The club said in a statement that tests showed a "fibrillary lesion in the left thigh femoral biceps." If Dembele is out for that long, he could miss five matches in La Liga as well as France's Euro 2020 qualifiers against Albania on September 7 and Andorra on September 20. He suffered a similar problem in May at the end of an injury-ravaged first season in Barcelona. He is the latest casualty in a depleted Barcelona strike force. Lionel Messi missed the Liga opener with a calf problem. Luis Suarez limped off after 37 minutes in Bilbao, also with a calf problem, and is expected to be absent for a month.

Kane, Akila reported for action

Dubai: New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and Sri Lanka's Akila Dananjaya have been reported for suspect bowling action after the first Test between the two sides in Galle, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Tuesday. Both the players are right-arm off-break spinners and their bowling actions came under scrutiny during the opening Test which ended on Sunday. Williamson and Dananjaya will now undergo testing within 14 days from the reporting date (August 18), and, during this period both will be permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the results of the testing are known. Williamson bowled just three overs during the second innings of the game while Dananjaya claimed six scalps in the Galle, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings.
