Brathwaite reported for action

Dubai: West Indies batsman Kraigg Brathwaite has been reported for a suspected illegal bowling action during the second Test against India in Kingston that ended last Monday. According to a media release issued by ICC, the match officials report, which was handed over to the West Indies management, cited concerns about the legality of the 26-year-old's bowling action during the course of the match. A specialist opener, Brathwaite, bowls part-time off-spin and had earlier been reported for a suspect bowling action in August 2017 against England in Birmingham but was cleared following an independent assessment. With Brathwaite being reported again, he will be required to submit to further testing by September 14. He is, however, permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the results of the testing are known.

Ashwin, Vijay in TN probables

Chennai: India spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin and all-rounders Vijay Shankar and M S Washington Sundar were on Sunday named in the Tamil Nadu probables list for the VIjay Hazare Trophy One-Day Tournament 2019-20, beginning later this month. The team will be led by K Dinesh Karthik, while former Tamil Nadu all-rounder D Vasu is the coach. The team includes C Hari Nishaanth, who performed well in the recent TNPL. According to a Tamil Nadu Cricket Association press release, the list also includes out-of-favour India players M Vijay and Abhinav Mukund.

Indian men's hockey team stays at 5

Lausanne : The Indian men's hockey team was static at number five while the women's team climbed a place to number nine in the FIH rankings released on Sunday. The fresh list was released following the conclusion of the Oceania Cup.There is no change at the top of the rankings with Australia's Oceania Cup triumph ensuring that they stay ahead of second-placed Belgium but the points gap between the two nations has narrowed to just two. Australia have 2350 points. European Bronze medallists the Netherlands (2155) remain third in the rankings, followed by the Pan American Games Gold medallists Argentina (1988). India (1823) are unchanged at number five while Germany (1770) have climbed one place to take sixth position from England (1679), who are now seventh.

Gundogan to miss euro qualifier

Berlin: Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan will miss Germany's key Euro 2020 qualifier against Northern Ireland on Monday with flu, the German FA confirmed. The 28-year-old left the team German hotel in Belfast on Sunday to return to Manchester and misses the top-of-the-table clash at Windsor Park. Second-placed Germany need to beat Northern Ireland, who top Group C with four straight wins, having lost 4-2 to the Netherlands in Hamburg on Friday, leaving the Germans three points behind their hosts. With Gundogan out of the match, rising Bayer Leverkusen starlet Kai Havertz, 20, is set to take his place.
