Smith, Warner back in Sheffield Shield

Sydney: Australia batsmen Steve Smith and David Warner will play their first domestic Sheffield Shield matches in almost two years when they turn out from Thursday for New South Wales against Queensland. Neither player has appeared in a four-day match Shield since November, 2017 when both also appeared for New South Wales against Queensland. They were named on Monday to play for New South Wales in the first round of the 2019-2020 season along with Australia teammate Mitchell Starc.

Vijender's next fight on Nov 22

New Delhi: After a winning start in the American professional circuit, Indian boxing star Vijender Singh will next be seen in action in Dubai on November 22 against a yet-to-be-finalised opponent. The unbeaten Vijender (11-0, 8 KOs) will look to extend his unbeaten record on a card promoted by Round 10 Boxing and MTK Global, in association with Top Rank — the Indian's promoters in the USA. The name of his opponent will be announced later. The hard-hitting super-middleweight is currently training in Manchester under his trainer Lee Beard.

India win Bronze at Bridge Worlds

New Delhi: India's senior bridge team led by Dipak Poddar has won a Bronze medal for the first time ever in the 44 years of the World Bridge Championships. This was announced by the Bridge Federation of India. The 44th World Bridge Championships was recently held in China. The senior Indian bridge team comprising captain Dipak Poddar, Jitendra Solani, Subhash Dhakras, Ramamurthy Sridharan, Subrata Saha and Sukamal Das, won the Bronze medal, a media release issued said.

Meiraba leads India's fine show  

Kazan: Maisnam Meiraba, Satish Karunakaran and Pranav Rao Gandham recorded victories in their respective matches as Indians began their singles campaign on a high note in the 21st edition of BWF World Junior Championships on Monday. Meiraba hardly broke a sweat as he beat Romania's Teodor Cioroboiu 21-4, 21-3. She took less than 15 minutes to wrap up the game and move to the round of 64 at the championships. Karunakaran also comfortably beat his Ugandan opponent Samuel Wasswa 21-6, 21-5 whie Pranav Rao crushed Armenia’s Arman Vardanyan 21-10, 21-6 in his first-round match.

lahore: Newcomer Bhanuka Rajapaksa hits a whirlwind half-century while Nuwan Pradeep and Wanindu Hasaranga recorded career-best bowling figures as Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by 35 runs in the second Twenty20 international in Lahore on Monday. Rajapaksa’s 77 off 48 balls lifted Sri Lanka to a challenging total of 182-6 — the left-hander blasting six sixes and four fours in a maiden fifty that came in only his second T20 international. And then during Pakistan innings, Pradeep finished with 4-25 while leg-spinner Hasaranga took 3-38 — collecting his wickets in the space of just four balls — as Pakistan were bowled out for 147 in 19 overs.
