I-League kicks off on Nov 30

New Delhi: Former champions Aizawl FC will clash with Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan at home in the opening round match of the I-League 2019-20 season on November 30. In another opening round match, Kozhikode-based Gokulam Kerala FC will host Manipur's Neroca FC at the EMS Corporation Stadium, according to the fixtures of the 11-team I-League announced by All India Football Federation on Tuesday. Defending champions Chennai City FC will begin their campaign at home the next day as they host debutants Tiddim Road Athletic Union, the second club from Manipur this season, at the Nehru Stadium. The AIFF has announced that DSport will broadcast the matches which will run till April next year.

Enrique returns as Spain coach 

New Delhi: Luis Enrique will return as coach of Spain and replace Robert Moreno ahead of Euro 2020, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed on Tuesday. Moreno took charge in June after Luis Enrique had resigned to take care of his daughter Xana, who died in August of bone cancer. “Today we can confirm Luis Enrique returns to his position of work,” RFEF president Luis Rubiales said in a press conference. Rubiales said Luis Enrique has a contract until the 2022 World Cup and that it will be up to him whether Moreno is offered a chance to resume his previous role as assistant coach. The pair were close friends and also worked together at Barca, Celta and Roma.

Bonucci extends Juve contract 

Turin: Italy defender Leonardo Bonucci has renewed his contract with Juventus by one year until 2024, the Serie A champions announced on Tuesday. The 32-year-old centre-back has made 376 appearances for the club, returning to Turin in August 2018 after one season at rivals AC Milan. He has played the full 90 minutes of all matches Juve have played this campaign. “It's a long and intense story; the one that links Leonardo Bonucci to Juventus,” the club said in a statement. “And it's a story that will continue to develop until 2024, after he officially penned in his contract renewal with the club today.”

France edge to opening win 

Madrid: France survived an early scare in the Davis Cup on Tuesday as the tournament's top seeds had to win a close deciding set in a decisive doubles rubber to beat Japan. Even without their injured star Kei Nishikori, Japan came close to recording a major upset on the second day at the Caja Magica before experienced French duo Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert pulled the 10-time champions over the line. Their 6-7 (4/7), 6-4, 7-5 victory against Ben McLachlan and Yasutaka Uchiyama clinched victory for France after Gael Monfils slipped to a surprise 7-5, 6-2 singles loss to world number 73 Yoshihito Nishioka. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga had opened with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Uchiyama.

Rhodes to train on Boostcamp 

New Delhi: Boost, one of GSKs leading brands in the Health Food Drinks category, has collaborated with renowned international player Jonty Rhodes to train sports enthusiasts on its online platform Boostcamp. Through this platform, sports enthusiasts are trained by their cricketing heroes about various facets of sports. Rhodes will be sharing his experience through specially curated training videos on fielding. The videos that will be rolled out on the online platform, will include modules on catching, fielding inside and outside the circle, and running out.

Team india arrives in kolkata 

Kolkata: The Indian team has arrived in Kolkata for day-night Test match. BCCI tweeted a video of the players. Skipper Virat Kohli and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane touched down at around 9.40 am before the rest of the players and headed straight to the team hotel.
