‘2 yrs of BJP rule disaster for U’khand’

Tuesday, 19 March 2019 | PNS | Dehradun

While the BJP leaders are busy flaunting the huge achievements of the party-helmed government on completion of its first two years in office, the deputy leader of the Congress legislature party Karan Mahra alleged that Uttarakhand has been downgraded   by at least 15 years during the two- year BJP rule in the state.

Terming the two- year saffron rule as very disappointing, he said that the during the 2017 Assembly election canvassing, the  Prime Minister Narendra Modi had conjured up a dream of  double engine government helping  the state stride forward.

“ But the people are now feeling cheated,” he said.

He further claimed that the BJP’s promise of waiving  off farm loans within 15 days on assuming charge of office has remained unfulfilled, leaving the farmers shocked. “Even the   dues of the sugarcane growers remain  unpaid till date,” he said.

“As many as 13 farmers have committed suicide in the state, something which is unprecedented in the 18-year history of the state.” The Congress leader said.

He also referred to the  CBI inquiry into the NH -74 scam fiasco. “Besides,  it  was also for the first time that the address of  the Governor was pre-poned by seven minutes, the objective behind it being to keep the Congress MLAs away from it,” he said.

Launching an acid-dripping attack on the BJP government, the Congress leader said that the health services have crumbled down completely. “ The women are being forced to deliver babies in the toilets. The 108 ambulance service in the state is in jeopardy,” he said and added that the illicit   liquor trade and illegal mining are going on in full swing while the law and order is plunging to its nadir.

“Besides, the BJP government has stopped 16 types of pensions in the past two years and reduced the quantity of ration supplied at the fair price shops,” he said.

The Congress leader also took a swipe at the government’s failure to bring Lokayukt within 100 days  on assuming office. “The state government has put the proposal in the cold storage,” he said.

Charging the state government with experimenting with the education system too often, Mahra said that the quality of education has deteriorated. He also attacked the state government for poor financial management and said that the state government has to seek loan for even paying the salaries of the employees.  “The smart city is still an elusive dream. People are feeling themselves cheated and it appears there is nothing like governance in the government,’’ he quipped.
