‘Consent to Operate’ to Adani was not given by Cong Govt: Baghel

Tuesday, 11 June 2019 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Monday claimed that the approval of ‘Consent to Operate’ iron ore block no 13 in Bailadila to Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL) was not given by his government.

He said that it was the decision of previous BJP government and since the subject was not brought before the new government, the department carried out old orders.

He was talking to reporters at Swami Vivekananda Airport Raipur after returning from Delhi on Monday.

“The first thing I want to ask Raman Singh is he in favour of providing MDO (mine developers and operators) to Adani or not? Secondly, the government officials follow the old orders until new decision is taken. So, the department has just carried out the decision taken by the previous government,” the Chief Minister said, while adding Raman Singh should explain whether they are in favour of providing MDO to Adani or not?

Notably, on Saturday, former CM Raman Singh had alleged that the Congress government by raising questions on the allotment of tenders is making mockery of its own ‘consent to operate’ approval which they had given in April 2019 after forming the new government.

Meanwhile, chairman of the state  Congress’s communication wing Shailesh Nitin Trivedi released a letter issued by the office of Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF), dating January 11, 2018 when the BJP government was in power in Chhattisgarh. The letter approved the felling of 25,400 trees in the block no 13 of Bailadila for mining purposes.

In the meantime, protesting against the     allotment of iron ore block, thousands of tribal people sat before the gate of the NMDC’s Kirandul facility. They are opposing mining in the hills, as they consider it as a sacred place.
