‘Hospital license reinstated under Mahajan pressure’

Tuesday, 20 August 2019 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

After 11 elderly patients lost vision following surgeries at a private hospital in Indore, Congress party on Monday accused former Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan of patronising the hospital and claimed the licence of the hospital  was reinstated under pressure from Mahajan in 2011.

Eighteen patients had lost eyesight in 2010 in the same hospital –Indore Eye Hospital--after cataract surgeries and hospital’s licence was suspended only to be reinstated the next year.

Congress State Secretary Rakesh Singh on Monday alleged that RSS functionaries have been associated with the private hospital since its inception and two of its administrators –Sudheer Mahashabde and Subhash Bandey, are full-time RSS members.

Yadav further alleged that former Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan had been patronising the hospital for years and it was under her pressure that the hospital got its licence back in 2011 after a similar goofed up surgeries in 2010 in which 18 people had lost vision.

“The then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Health minister had reinstated hospital’s licence following pressure was exerted by the then MP Sumitra Mahajan,” Yadav alleged further.

Yadav had also presented pictures of Mahashabde and Subhash Bandey clad in RSS uniforms. He further alleged that Mahajan’s close aide Jayant Bhise is a partner in the hospital.

This is the reason, Congress leaders despite their party being in power are protesting against the guilty doctors and the BJP was tight-lipped.

Responding to his allegations, former Bhopal MP Alok Sanjar said that Congress party was levelling baseless allegations to shield its own slack machinery. “Why can’t the Health minister who is Indore native could take cognizance of the victims’ plight and only swung into action after media highlighted the matter,” asked Sanjar.
