‘No plastic use message’ at Puja pandals’

The Ranchi district administration and the Ranchi Municipal Corporation seem to have found an apt opportunity to run mass awareness campaigns during Durga Puja this year.

Spreading the message of ‘No plastic use’ and cleanliness among lakhs of devotees visiting Puja pandals everyday, authorities are trying their best to involve people in the national cleanliness campaign.

As part of the awareness campaign of not using single-use plastic, a signature campaign is being run in various puja pandals in the capital city.

From October 04, cloth bags were distributed by councillors in these pandals by spreading awareness among the people. People were requested not to use anything made of plastic.

People were also administered oath not to use single use pastic. At the same time special initiatives have been taken for cleanliness campaign in all the pandals. RMC officials said that there is no complete ban on single use plastic, but the government is trying to spread awareness among the people through a campaign against it.

Besides the campaign against single use plastic special attention is being given to cleanliness drive in and around the puja pandals. For cleaning in the puja pandals, the RMC has divided it into four zones.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner Rajneesh Kumar for the first zone, Jyoti Kumar for the second zone, Health Officer Kiran Kumari for the third zone and Shankar Yadav, deputy city commissioner for the fourth zone, have been appointed.

Fogging is also being done around all the puja pandals by the Municipal Corporation. Additional Municipal Commissioner Girija Shankar said that till the end of the puja, fogging will continue at all the pandals  regularly.

Notably, the civic body is also distributing cloth bags among devotees during puja. City Manager Sandeep said that cloth bags are being distributed everywhere. People are being told the side effects of using these plastics by running a signature campaign.

The district administration is also running a signature campaign at Puja Pandals for voters awareness. One can participate in the signature campaign while visiting various puja pandals in Ranchi, where one can sign and take an oath to vote in the upcoming Assembly elections.

As per the direction of District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner Ranchi, voter awareness campaign is being carried out under the SVEEP in various puja pandals.

Signature campaign boards have been installed in many puja pandals, where citizens who are eligible to build a strong democracy can sign and take an oath to vote in the upcoming Assembly elections 2019.
