‘Onus on Majithia to show details of money given to farmer’

Monday, 11 February 2019 | PNS | Chandigarh

Punjab Cabinet Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Sunday again challenged the SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia to show details of “donation” in public domain given to farmer Budh Singh if the Akali leader claims that the money was from lawful source failing which he should face ED investigation.

Randhawa also said that he demanded the Enforcement Directorate’s investigation as Majithia is not part of the government and failed to disclose the source from which he had given this money.

Alleging conspiracy by Majithia for getting sympathy and emotional support by taking advantage of such a delicate issue, Randhawa said that it is also significant to bring in public domain that why Majithia gave Rs 3.86 lakh to the farmer when, as per the records, the loan amount was only Rs 1.76 lakh.

“All this points out to a devious game by Majithia to buy the voice of the farmer Budh Singh,” he said adding that Majithia must explain the source of money.

Randhawa added that besides, the Akali leader must explain to people of his own constituency that why he picked a farmer out of other area and could not find any family to help in his own constituency. Majithia’s actions indicated that how he deceived people of his constituency only for political gains, he said.

The Cabinet Minister also said that by using money for furthering his political ends is clearly indicative of the fact that with money power Majithia wanted to buy democracy which is not possible in the country.

Coming to the issue of the resignation demand raised by Majithia, Randhawa said that Akali leader must remember those days when he was facing serious allegations of drug smuggling but Badal clan had gone hammer and tongs to save him and he never offered to resign.

“It is also important to tell the people of Punjab that the then Jails Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur was a scapegoat to save Majithia's skin and forced to resign from the government where as Phillaur did not have any role and his son Damanvir Phillaur's name had been cropped up which was too under investigation,” he said.

Randhawa said that as a Minister, he can demand investigation and it is duty of ED agency to prove the charge, “and if Majithia too realises that he made a mistake by circumventing the government process in loan waiving, he should prove the source of money otherwise I would ask the agency to grill him to get source of money as he was facing serious allegations of being into drug smuggling and being in cahoots with the other mafias such as mining and liquor”.
