‘RERA must be powerful to ensure better quality of houses’

Wednesday, 23 January 2019 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

The Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) Act must be made more powerful and effective for the redressal of housing related grievances of citizens so that quality houses can be made available to them. This was stated by Chairman of Madhya Pradesh RERA Antony DeSa at a meeting of the Urban Development and Housing Department at New Delhi. Other states including Maharashtra also seconded the views of DeSa.

DeSa said that the Authority has to encourage not only the fixation of compensation but also real estate. After this there is need to grant more rights to the Authority to take stern action against any party’s callousness in adherence to rules.

He said that the experiences during the amendments made in RERA Act in Madhya Pradesh must be taken into consideration.

DeSa said that Madhya Pradesh has been leading in the country in the implementation of RERA Act.

He said that currently some builders sell plots and flats without registration under RERA. This adversely affects the interests of the allottee and he is not effectively compensated. There is need to pay attention to this also.

DeSa told that 1435 orders out of 2583 cases acquired in Madhya Pradesh RERA have been passed. He said that action is being taken against illegal projects persistently. A helpline number -8989880123 has been started for information of illegal projects. Information of illegal colonies from the entire state is being received on this number.
