‘Skill needed to tackle challanges facing forest’

The Central Academy for State Forest Service (CASFoS) organised the convocation for the 2017-19 batch of State Forest Service Officer Trainees who passed out after successful completion of two-year induction training. 

The batch consisted of 42 Officer Trainees sponsored by various State Governments including 11 lady officer trainees sponsored by the State Governments of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

The State’s Urban Development and Housing minister Madan Kaushik was the chief guest on the occasion with Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy director Omkar Singh as the guest of honour. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Kaushik impressed upon the passing out officers of their crucial role as future custodians of the country’s rich forest wealth.  He said that they are entering the service at a time when the sector is facing multiple challenges.

It would require great skill and devotion to rise to the expectations of the citizens of the nation, he said. All successfully passing out Officer Trainees were given diploma certificates while 21 Officer Trainees were given Honours diploma certificate.  Five meritorious trainees were given special awards.

Pradeep from Uttar Pradesh won Ministry of Environment and Forests Gold Medal and silver medal of ‘Best All Rounder Officer Trainee and Most Practical Officer’.

Sweta Singh from Madhya Pradesh was presented the silver medal for ‘Proficiency in Forest Management and Working Plan’, Prashant Kumar Sakare from Madhya Pradesh received the silver medal for ‘Proficiency in Ecology’, Vineeta Singh from Uttar Pradesh received the ‘RC Kaushik Prize for Proficiency in Soil Conservation and Land Management’, Abhishek Kumar Tiwari from Madhya Pradesh won Central Academy for State Forest Service Association Prize for ‘Proficiency in Forest Engineering and Survey’ and Pradeep from Uttar Pradesh also won ‘P Srinivas Prize in Forest Protection and Tribal Welfare’. Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) director general SC Gairola, Forest Survey of India (FSI) director general Subhash Ashutosh, Wildlife Institute of India director VB Mathur, Forest Research Institute director AS Rawat and CASFoS principal Kunal Satyarthi were also among those present on the occasion
