‘Slashed parking rates effective in city’

Saturday, 05 October 2019 | PNS | Ranchi

In order to encourage people to use authorised parking spots instead of parking their vehicles in front of shops causing traffic jams, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided to reduce the parking charges across the City.

A recent communiqué issued by the civic body stated that the new parking rates have been applicable across various parking bays in the City from October 1 and the parking contractors have also been informed about the same.

In a meeting of the Technical Road Committee chaired by the Additional Municipal Commissioner Girja Shankar Prasad held on September 24 not only were the existing parking fares reduced but the time limit for parking was also increased.

The new parking rates for four wheelers have now been fixed at Rs 20 for three hours as against Rs 40 per hour. For two wheelers the charges were brought down to Rs 5 for three hours instead of Rs 10 per hour.“The parking rates fixed by RMC have been enforced across the City from October 1. Initially a few complaints were received from some localities which have been successfully resolved.

An enforcement team also surveyed the parking areas at MG Road on October 3 and ensured that the contractors were complying with the new charges and also giving parking slips,” said Sourabh Kumar Verma, City Manager Transport Cell.

However, this does not include the charges levied by malls and multiplexes. “The parking fares charged by shopping malls in Ranchi is not regulated by RMC. Malls and multiplexes have been issued a letter requesting to apply the same rates,” added Verma.
