The BR Life Kalinga Hospital recently added another feather to its cap by performing the first-ever Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS) in Odisha on a 46-year-old patient to treat chronic cirrhotic liver.
The person, a case of chronic alcoholic liver cirrhosis, complained of jaundice, bloating of stomach and vomiting blood; and upon investigation he was diagnosed to have three litres of liquid accumulated in his abdomen. However, it kept recurring and deteriorating his health further.
Later, BR Life’s Vascular and Interventional Radiologist Consultant Dr Sibasankar Dalai and Anesthesia HOD Dr Sanghamitra Mishra performed TIPS surgery.
