The Uttar Pradesh Assembly secretariat said that rape accused Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, presently lodged in Sitapur district jail, was not a member of any of the committees of the Assembly.
Sengar is an MLA from Bangarmau Assembly seat in Unnao.
In a statement issued in Lucknow on Wednesday, Principal Secretary of Assembly, Pradeep Kumar Dubey, said that Speaker Hriday Narayan Dikshit had not nominated Kuldeep Singh Sengar to any committee of the Assembly after criminal cases were registered against him in April, 2018.
Dubey said that it was erroneously reported in a section of the media that Sengar was a member of Assurance Committee of the House.
The Principal Secretary said that Kuldeep Singh Sengar had attended the last meeting of Assurance Committee on April 4, 2018 and after the end of his one-year term, he had not been nominated to any committee of the Assembly.
The Principal Secretary said that the Assembly had delegated the authority for constituting all committees of the House to the Speaker in February this year.
He said that exercising the authority, the Speaker had set up the Assurance Committee on June 28 this year and Sengar was not a member of it.
