1,000 quintals of illegal paddy seized in Bilaspur

Bilaspur district administration has seized 1,000 quintals of paddy which was illegally transported to the district for selling at the procurement centres, officials informed here on Sunday.

The teams of revenue, food and cooperative department are carrying out intense checking drive to stop the influx of illegal paddy in the district from neighbouring states, officials stated.

“In different cases 15 vehicles involved in paddy movement were also seized. On the borders of neighbouring district 13 check barriers have been created out of which eight are in forested region,” a district administration officer informed.   

As per the officials, by November 17, 26 case of illegal paddy storage and transport were registered wherein 786 quintals of paddy was seized while 14 vehicles were also confiscated. In Pendra sub-division 5 cases were registered wherein around 171 quintals of paddy was seized, while in Ratanpur 150 sacks of illegal paddy were also seized. 

Similar checking was carried out in rice mills at Bilha and Sankari region which will continue in coming days, officials said.
