12 killed in mishaps

A dozen persons were killed in four mishaps across the state since Monday evening.

In Hardoi, three men were killed when their motorcycle rammed into a stationary pick-up van near Pankutiya Sunni Mahri village in Baghauli police station area on Lucknow-Hardoi road on Monday night.

Police identified the victims as Vimlesh (24), Prithviraj (21) and Ram Pujan (18). All three were inebriated and were returning from a marriage function.

The bodies were sent for autopsy and a case was registered.

In a similar mishap in Baghpat, four students coming from Haryana were killed when their car rammed into a stationary truck near Sarfabad village on Eastern Peripheral Expressway on Tuesday.

The mishap took place when the driver lost control over wheels and rammed the car into the stationary truck.

A girl, who suffered injuries, was admitted to the district hospital.

In Kaushambi, two members of a family were killed and two others injured after they were hit by a speeding SUV on National Highway 2 on Tuesday morning.

The victims were standing by the roadside when they were hit by the speeding vehicle.

While Nusrat (30) and her daughter Alisha (5) died on the spot, Nusrat’s mother-in-law and son were injured.

The SUV driver was arrested and the vehicle was  impounded.

In the last incident reported from Pratapgarh, three persons were fatally struck by lightning in Bhav village of Baghrai police station area on Tuesday.

Sitaram (24), his sister Sakshi (14) and Ram Babu (35) were working in a field when they were struck by lightning.

The bodies were sent for autopsy.
