The headmasters and headmistresses of as many as 126 high schools of Sundargarh district have been served show-cause notices for poor performance of their students in matriculation examination this year.

They have been asked to submit a written reply to their show cause notice mentioning why actions would not be taken against them. Sources said after examining the performances of different schools of Sundargarh district in the matriculation examination, District Education Officer (DEO) Ranjan Kumar Giri has served a show cause notice to as many as 126 Government schools of Sundargarh district, whose results were less than 50 per cent. Significantly, the list included Deobahal Nodal High school under Subdega block of Sundargarh district, whose results were zero.

Notably, the pass percentage of matriculation examination, which was as high as 76.33 per cent in 2018 has come down to as low as 67.70 per cent this year. The DEO office has therefore targeted the schools mainly those whose results were less than 50 per cent this year. Sources said the result of as many 39 high schools of Sundargarh district has been varying between 3 to 25 per cent only.

"We have served show cause notices to about 126 schools of Sundargarh district, considering their poor results in matriculation examination,  whose result is less than 50 per cent," said DEO Sundargarh Ranjan Kumar Giri. “The show cause has been served as per the Government guideline, helding  the headmasters/ headmistresses responsible for the poor show of  their students in the exam," Giri added.
