12K political hoardings, posters removed

Public hoardings carrying images of party leaders, Government schemes or any political references were removed or covered up in the city in accordance with the model code of conduct for the general elections on Wednesday.

According to officials, more than 12011 hoardings, banners and posters violating the model code of conduct for the general elections were removed in last 24 hours.

“The officials have removed 50 posters, banners and hoardings in

New Delhi Municipal Council area, 1020 in East Delhi Municipal Council area, 1350 in North Delhi Municipal Council area whereas 9591 were removed in North Delhi Municipal Council area,” said a senior official.

Pictures of political leaders have been ordered to be removed even from websites

The direction was issued on Monday during a joint meeting called by chief electoral officer Ranbir Singh with north, south and east corporations, New Delhi Municipal Council, Delhi Police and district election officers. “Except for the paid banners, installed in compliance with norms, no other posters, banner will be allowed,” said Singh.

The civic agencies are also supposed to submit regular action taken report to the election office in this regard. “The cases of violators who paste such political posters again will be referred to election commission for imposing fine or deciding punishment,” said a senior SDMC official.
