A total of 13 cases under Section 188 of IPC (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) were registered in the city on the night intervening October 27/28 against those who were bursting fire crackers beyond permissible time limit.

One another case was registered under Section 188 IPC against a person who was selling fire crackers without any permit or license.

As per direction of the Court, bursting of fire crackers was only permissible between 8 PM to 10 PM on October 27, the festival of Diwali. To follow these directions of the Court, sufficient police force was deployed to maintain law and order in the city by Chandigarh Police, said an official spokesman.

The orders of Deputy Commissioner Chandigarh under Section 144 CrPC regarding bursting and selling of fire crackers between 8 PM to 10 PM on October 27 was followed as per directions and legal action were taken against the violators.

The spokesman said that on the eve of “Diwali Day”, Chandigarh ERSS PSAP (Police Control Room) received 1435 calls, out of which 420 spot generated.  Police ERUs (PCR) were dispatched on 415 spots, Fire ERUs (fire tender) dispatched on 27 spots and medical ERUs (ambulance) were dispatched on 27 spots.

Giving details of the complaints, the spokesman said that this time, 420 total spots generated  included 75 complaints related to fire crackers bursting nuisance, 23 related to nuisance, 27 fire related incidents, 35 accidents, 123 quarrel, and 137 miscellaneous complaints.

 During Diwali 2018, 439 spots visits included 43 complaints related to fire crackers bursting nuisance, 14 related to nuisance, 10 fire incidents, 41 accidents, 211 quarrels and 120 miscellaneous complaints.
