The national Capital has witnessed spurt in patients suffering from malaria with at least 123 people affected till July this year. Cases of dengue have also spiked with 13 cases traced last week, taking the total number of patients to 104 this year till now.
According to a data released by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Monday, six new cases of Chikungunya also reported in the city taking the total number to 33.
However, out of total cases of malaria, 61 cases diagnosed belong to the neighbouring states while 65 patients suffering from dengue traced in Delhi belong to other States. As per the report, hospitals did not provide address of two patients diagnosed of malaria, two of Chikungunya and 13 patients diagnosed of dengue.
Last year, 2,798 dengue cases and four deaths were recorded by the SDMC, which tabulates the data on vector-borne diseases in the city.
The north, south and east corporations have found mosquito-breeding in at least 33,957 households and 34,221 legal notices have been issued this year.
Doctors have advised people to use mosquito repellents, wear clothes which cover your full body and avoid places that are more prone to the diseases. They also advised to take precautions to ensure that there is no breeding of mosquito larvae around them.
As the season for spread of vector-borne diseases has kicked in, the city government’s health department and local bodies are gearing up to check any possible outbreak of dengue, whose virus thrives during this period.
According to the SDMC, 10 people had died due to dengue in Delhi in 2017, of which five were not residents of the national capital. Overall, the vector-borne disease had affected 9,271 people in the city last year.
