2,20,753 voters to use franchise first time: CEO

The Election Commission of India has made it clear that as per the tentative list with it 2,20,753 first time voters would be able to cast their votes during the upcoming general elections in the State.

Chief Electoral Officer of Jharkhand L Khiyangte on Wednesday informed that the figure is tentative based on the list released by the Commission in January this year and the process is yet to get over.

“As per tentative figures 2,20,753 voters in the State are first timer aged between 18-19 year. 1,33,668 are males and 87,056 are females. The Commission is yet to publish the final list of the voters and the names can be added till then. The Commission is taking the task on urgent basis and final number of voters is expected to go further up,” said the CEO.

He went on adding that as many as 29 of the first time voters are from the third gender, maximum 11, of them are from Lohardaga. Also, most number of additions into the voters’ list is from Palamu which is 30154 followed by Ranchi (26956).

The office of the CEO also organised a training programme for political parties where they were told to take help of ‘Suvidha’ App to get permission for campaigning. Information about VVPAT, C-vigil app, helpline number-1950 and other tools of IT related to elections were also given.

Additional CEO Manish Ranjan said during the training programme that ‘Suvidha’ can be used as integrated App to avail various facilities such as nomination, permission for electioneering, counting and results.

The applications coming for such would be directed to the concerned nodal officer through a notification who can approve or disapprove it after verification. Representatives of all the political parties were present during the programme and  were given on the spot training about the mobile Application.
