In an innovative approach to foster the inclusive understanding of essential subjects among the youths that affects the country’s overall development, the screening session for the upcoming district level contest of ‘Youth Parliament aka Yuva Sansad’ started here in the State Capital on Friday. So far, around 2,500 students had registered themselves to showcase their skills in the district level event.

Covering the opinion of youths falling in the age group 18 to 25 years on developmental issues, government schemes and policies, the screening session was successfully held at St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi.

Further to ensure the participation of youths in sufficient number, screening test will be conducted for another two days at different colleges.

The screening assessment is being organised following two methodologies – Digital (sharing videos on You-Tube) and Walk-ins (face to face interaction).

‘Yuva Sansad’ organised under the aegis of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, GoI in coordination with National Service Scheme (NSS) have planned the district level event from January 24 to 28 here.

As per State NSS Officer, Brijesh Kumar, focusing on all major socio-cultural, economic, political and developmental matters, the first district level competition will be organised at Palamau, Garhwa, Latehar, Deoghar, Jamtara on January 24.

“Another district level event will be held on January 25 at Dumka, Godda, Sahibganj, Pakur while on January 28, the districts like Ranchi, Gumla, Lohardaga, Khunti, Simdega, Giridih, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Chatra, Koderma, Jamshedpur, Chaibasa including Seraikela-Kharsawan will be covered,” added Kumar.

“As many as 100 students will be shortlisted in the screening test from different districts. The top contestants who qualify the district level round will participate in the State level event, scheduled on February 7 in Ranchi. Nearly 36 students are expected to participate in the State level round,” Kumar further added.

Meanwhile, during the ‘Walking Screening’ session, the students shared their views on socio-economic empowerment and inclusion of the marginalised, enhancing women empowerment from ‘Beti Bachhao, Beti Padhao to Sukanya Samridhi Yojana’, ease of living for all citizens and curbing corruption through ‘Zero Tolerance Policy’.

On the digital platform, the students showcased their understanding on the topics ranging from health issues to policies meant to eliminate farmers’ distress.

“For digital platform, subjects like sanitation, Ayushmaan Bharat – a revolution in the health sector, Jan-Dhan to Mudra Yojana, Seeds to Market—efforts being taken up by the government for doubling farmers income have been selected. The response of the students on the digital platform is also quite encouraging,” the State NSS Officer stated.

“The videos shared by the students on You-tube will be evaluated soon by the special committee members comprising academicians and other noted personalities.

The videos will be reviewed at the digital centers constituted at Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Hazaribagh and Dumka. The final merit list of the screening test will be released on January 20,” added Kumar.

Notably, the annual event is organised to encourage the youths to engage with public issues giving voice to common man, form their opinions and express it in an expressive manner.

Also, development and enhancement of decision making abilities obtaining youth’s opinions on ‘Vision of New India in 2022’ while forwarding the views to policy makers and implementers is the prime motto behind holding ‘ Youth Parliament’.

“The state-level successful participants will rub their shoulders for the national level challenge slated on February 24 and 25 at New Delhi.

Two students who had performed exceptionally well at the State level contest will get to share the dais with the students from across the country at the national event while the district toppers will be the observers at the national event,” Kumar said.
