2-day workshop on economic & social transformation through GPDP unveiled

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat inaugurated a two-day workshop on economic and social transformation through Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) in Himalayan States at Rishikesh on Thursday.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the chief minister said that the Panchayati Raj department is organising this workshop with the aim of ‘Sabni Yojana, Sabka Vikas’.

He pointed out that there are considerable geographical similarities among Himalayan states.

He said, “When Himalayan states come together to deliberate upon the development of Panchayats like this, the future will definitely bring positive results. Such workshops enable the exchange of information among public representatives while also giving them a chance to get inspired by each others works. Officers of various departments related to Panchayati Raj will provide information about their works. Workshops like this one will give a new angle for the development of villages.

Our Panchayat representatives will also take a new message to their villages from such workshops.”

The Chief Minister further said that the people have a lot of expectations from public representatives for the development of villages and society. Some public representatives in Panchayats do commendable works.

However, no work is possible in the absence of political will power. Along with the passion for work, public representatives must also have good attitude.

Referring to the workshop, Rawat said that experts from various departments will provide information about various activities related to Panchayati Raj.

The representatives from Panchayats will gain various new bits of information, he added.

The Panchayati Raj additional secretary, Government of India, Sanjay Singh said that under the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP), as part of ‘Sabki Yojana, Sabka Vikas’ workshops are being organised in different parts of the country for social and economic transformation in Gram Panchayats between October 2 and December 31. This has been taken up in the form of a campaign.

For this purpose, 18 departments are working in 28 areas, informed Singh.

Retired additional secretary of Panchayati Raj Ministry, Bala Prasad, joint secretary, government of India, Alok Premnagar, representatives from National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Hyderabad, Uttarakhand’s Panchayati Raj director HC Semwal and others were also among those present on the occasion.
