Two workers died while one sustained injuries after a wall dividing two godowns housing tiles and the other full of electric transformers scrap, collapsed apparently due to rain in outer Delhi’s Najafgarh on Monday evening.
The deceased have been identified as Jasvir (20) and Karim (25) both residents of Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh (UP) and were working near the wall of scarp godown at the time of incident. While injured is identified as Sonu (21) a resident of Bulandhshahr, UP.
According to Anto Alphonse, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dwarka district, they had received a Police Control Room (PCR) call regarding the incident at around 3:58 pm at Najafgarh police station following which a team rushed to the spot.
“ Jasvir, Karim and Sonu were found in unconscious condition and they were rushed to Rao Tula Ram Memorial hospital where Jasvir and Karim succumbed to their injuries during treatment while Sonu is still undergoing treatment,” said the DCP.
“Initial investigation suggested that there were some tiles kept next to the wall of the godown that was full of scrap. Due to the gusty winds and heavy rain that lashed the national capital in the afternoon, the wall gave way and came crashing down on the three workers working in the scrap godown,” said the DCP.
“The fallen wall was constructed three years ago by Surender Jain who is also owner of the godown. He first elevated the base to about 5 feet by retaining wall and further elevated the wall to eight feet, hence the wall was about 12 feet from the side of scrap godown,” said the DCP.
“A case has been registered under appropriate sections at Najafgarh police station. Further investigation is going on,” the DCP added.
