The Delhi Police on Monday arrested two friends, who to fund their drug addiction used to commit auto theft and snatchings in Delhi’s Dwarka area. The accused have been identified as Sunny Kanojiya (25) a resident of Janakpuri, New Delhi and Premjeet Mann (22) resident of Sagarpur in New Delhi.
According to Anto Alphonse, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dwarka district, in view of incidents of auto lifting reported in Dwarka area police deployed staff to carry out checking of vehicles randomly at strategic points when specific inputs were received that Sunny and Chhenu, who are involved in several cases of auto-lifting and other crimes, would be coming near Power House, Sector-2, Dwarka following which trap was laid and the duo was apprehended.
“Police have recovered three stolen bikes and three snatched phones from their possession. To avoid being caught selling stolen bikes, the accused used to disassemble bikes and used to sell spares to different automobiles repairing shops or scrap dealers in city. The money earned through selling stolen bikes and other items was mostly spent on drugs and foods from good restaurants. The duo is involved in a lot number of motor cycle thefts in Western Delhi area,” said the DCP.
“Further investigation of the case is in progress and accused are being interrogated to affect more recoveries and to ascertain their involvement in other cases also,” the DCP added.
