2 held for cloning debit, credit cards

The Delhi Police on Friday arrested two hightech and armed Inter-State ATM debit and credit card cloners active in the national Capital and other several States in country. Police have also recovered more than 300 cloned cards, one skimmer device, one camera and scanner device, spare batteries, one loaded country made pistol with two extra cartridges and one card reader device from the possession of the accused.

The accused have been identified as Krishna Gopal (22), a resident of Kakrola in Dwarka area and Sumit Gola (30), a resident of Delhi’s Mandawali area.

According to Devendra Arya, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South-West district, after receiving specific inputs regarding the duo a trap was laid on Chattarpur road in Mahipalpur area and Krishan and Sumit were arrested.

“During interrogation of both accused confessed to their crime of cloning ATM debit and credit cards and disclosed that they bought devices like skimmer devices, batteries, cameras and scanners cards having magnetic chip used in cloning of cards from online shopping site “Alibaba”,” said the DCP.

“After receiving of these products, accused Krishna assembled all these electronic devices and later he along with his associate Sumit fitted these devices in the ATM’s of Delhi- NCR and other states including Maharastra, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh to collect the data for cloning,” said the DCP

“During the process Sumit used to took a close watch from 50-60 meters from ATM for any kind of disturbance. After few hours they used to detach the skimmer from the ATM and extract the data in encrypted form. They came in touch with some software engineers via G-mail, Wicker, Tutanota and many other online platforms having (end to end encryption) for decryption of collected data,” said the DCP.

“Both of the accused persons used to make payment of Rs 100 to 12,000 for each decryption to these engineers via Bitcoin and cash deposit in their account. After collecting decrypted data accused Krishna used to clone Debit and Credit cards. Later they used to make online payments and withdrawal of money using these cloned cards,” said the DCP.

“The accused Krishna is also found involved in two cases of similar kind of modus operandi in Cuttack in Orrisa and Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh,” the DCP added.
