Delhi Customs Officials have arrested a man and a woman at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport for allegedly trying to smuggle gold valuing around Rs 31.57 lakh into the country.
According to Dr Amandeep Singh, Additional Commissioner of Customs, the duo, said to be relatives, were intercepted upon their arrival from Dubai on Sunday.
“They were stopped by officials and a baggage search of the passengers resulted in the recovery of gold in paste form and four gold bangles, total weighing 982 grams,” said Dr Singh.
“The gold items have been seized and the duo arrested under section 104 of customs act,” Dr Singh added.
