2 Jamia students stabbed for resisting snatching bid

Two Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) students of Jamia Millia Islamia were allegedly attacked with a sharp-edged weapon by pickpockets in a moving cluster bus. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon. The victims have been identified as Asad Ahmed and his friend Krishan Chand, a resident of Dilshad Colony.

DCP South East district Chinmoy Biswal said the complainant Chand and Asad boarded a bus from Sarai Julaina to Jamia.

“In the crowded bus on way to Jamia, Chand felt that someone was touching his pocket. There were two pickpockets and Chand, along with Asad, tried to catch them," said the DCP.

"When the bus stopped, a the pickpocket waved a surgical blade attacking Asad on his hand and lower abdomen. Asad was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre where his condition is said to be stable," said the DCP.

After attacking the students, the pickpockets melted into the crowd of Jamia Nagar.

Police said they have registered a case and are probing the matter. Following the incident, students of the varsity appealed to the administration to ensure that such incidents do not happen in future. They expressed concern that such incidents have seen a rise in the area.

Jamia Chief Proctor Waseem Ahmad Khan said he spoke to the SHO and he has assured him that police are probing the matter.
