2 robbers wanted in 100 cases held

The Delhi police has arrested two desperate robbers who were allegedly involved in robbing a family in Model town and a medical shop in New Friends Colony at gun point. Police said the arrested criminals were notorious ones and were on spree of committing robberies. Till now, they have confessed to have committed around 100 robberies in and around national Capital. The accused have been identified as Affan (23) and Chand (22) and both are from Muradnagar in Uttar Pradesh (UP).

Recently, on June 30, CCTV footage of three masked robbers robbing a family at gunpoint in Model town had gone viral on the same night they had fired at the police party and had managed to escape, the same gang struck again and robbed a medical store in Sarai Jullena of New Friends colony in the wee hours of June 2.

According to Atul Kumar Thakur, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North East district, on July 8, a tip off regarding robbers was received following which a trap was laid in front of Gurudwara, Loni Road.

"The police team apprehended two persons riding on a bike who were coming towards Durga Puri from Loni Gole Chakkar. On their search, one semi-automatic pistol, one country-made pistol, six live cartridges were recovered from their possession. The bike they were riding was also found stolen," said the DCP.

"Subsequently, a First Information Report (FIR) under section 25/54/59 of Arms Act was registered at Jyoti Nagar police station and both the accused persons were arrested," said the DCP.

"During interrogation, the accused revealed that they used to leave from their hideout places at midnight and target the places in and around Ring road area," said the DCP.

"Their modus operandi was to rob two wheelers and use these for committing other robberies. They have revealed the names of other members of their group also. The third associate, who was seen in the CCTV footages that had gone viral, have been identified and teams have been formed to nab him," said the DCP.

Sources in police revealed that the accused were out on bail as they were arrested in a robbery case earlier in May this year. In the past, one and a half month they have committed more than 15 armed robberies. The accused had 3-4 hide out places in the NCR and kept changing their hideout places to avoid arrest.

"They used to where cap and mask to hide their identities. They wanted lavish lifestyles leading them to use these shortcuts to earn quick money. Affan has two wives while the other members had several girlfriends, they had to meet their expenses as well," said a senior police officer.
