2 snatchers arrested, pistol seized

The Delhi Police have arrested two persons, who were addicted to liquor and in order to meet their needs they started petty thefts and snatching from pedestrians in the area of Okhla Mandi and Okhla Railway Station in Delhi South-East area. Police have also recovered one country made pistol with two live cartridges and one buttondar knife from the possession of the accused.

The accused have been identified as Shakeel (26) alias Chhota and Rashid (23) both residents of Delhi’s Sriniwaspuri. With their arrest police have also solved six cases of theft and snatching registered at Amar Colony and Defence Colony police stations.

According to Chinmoy Biswal, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South-East district, specific inputs were received regarding the duo involved in theft and snatching in the area Okhala following which a trap was laid and the duo was apprehended by police team on Mrach 14 from Okhala Mandi.

“The duo were riding on a stolen scooty when they were nabbed by the police team. During interrogation the accused disclosed that they used to steal mobile phones of the customers from Okhla Sabji Mandi. They also used to steal scooty for joy-ride purpose. Accused persons used to dispose the stolen mobile phones to passersby at cheap prices,” said the DCP.

“They both accused earlier used to work as a labour but addiction to alcohol and to earn easy money the duo started theft and snatching in the area. On the instance of accused persons, three stolen mobile phones and one motorcycle has been recovered,” said the DCP adding that further investigation is going on.
