A two-storey modern air conditioned fish market would be constructed at the Mardaraj vending zone at Kamapalli here, informed Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) Commissioner Chakraborty Singh Rathore on Thursday.
Rathore said all fish and meat traders will be allotted cabins in the market, to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 2.8 crore. He said maintaining of sanitation if the fish market would be the priority of the BeMC.
During his visit to the market, he talked to traders and enquired about the problems of the area. He assured the traders that electricity and water supply would also be provided to them regularly. Responding to some people’s complaint that some traders are killing goats in the open, the BeMC Commissioner said CCTV cameras would be installed and stern action would be taken against violators.
On the occasion, Rathore distributed cotton bags, provided by the Bandhan Bank, among consumers and advised them not to use plastic containers and keep environment clean.
The Bandhan Bank has supplied as many as 50,000 cotton bags for distribution among common people. By now, the BeMC has collected over Rs 4 lakh as fines from polythene bag sellers at different places in the city.
Members of women self-help groups would be provided training and incentive to make cotton bags, said Rathore.
