Two students sustained critical injuries following an explosion at the Magura UP School in Aska of Ganjam district on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 10 am when the students of the school were going to have their midday meal.
Sources said a student found an unidentified object, suspected to be a Tabeez (amulet). Seconds later, there was an explosion after the student threw the amulet on the floor.
Though the exact reason behind the blast is yet to be ascertained, police officials led by the local SDPO rushed the school to conduct a probe into the matter.
The two injured students were first admitted to Aska hospital and later shifted to the MKCG Medical College Hospital here after their condition deteriorated.
Sources said as mining is carried out in quarries the area the suspicious object might be a detonator, which somehow found its way to the school. School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash directed the District Education Officer (DEO) to conduct a probe and submit a report within a week.
