24-year-old wanted rape accused nabbed

A 24-year-old man wanted by the law in a case of rape and absconding for the past three years, was arrested from Gurugram, said the police on Sunday. The accused identified as Rahul Victor  was working as a driver  and was arrested from Sikandarpur, Gurugram.

The victim had lodged a complaint with the police in February 2016 and alleged that Rahul who was known to her in 2015 took her to Gurugram where he offered her cold drink laced with intoxicated substance. When she lost her conscious, he raped her and took her photographs and video clips, police said.

She further alleged that the accused sexually exploited  as he had threatened to load her photographs and video clip on social networking sites, Vijay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) said.

Rahul again came to her house at Kotla Mumbarakpur on February 9, 2016 and threatened her, he said. A case was registered in this regard at Kotla Mubarak police station, the officer said.

The accused was on the run for more than three years. Due to non availability of any present or permanent address, he could not be apprehended, he said.  However, Investigations revealed that at the time of offence, the accused was using Aircel simcard and due of closure of Aircel company, no records were made available, he added.  Several Face book accounts in the name of  Rahul were scanned to trace his whereabouts. During this process, the victim  identified one of the photographs of accused  in an account, the DCP said.

All the photographs posted by the accused on the Face book account were checked and in one of the selfies taken in front of a shop and posted by the accused, a phone numbers of shop keeper was seen on the board. A police team managed to locate the shop, the DCP said.

Police learnt that Rahul used to work as a delivery boy in a restaurant in 2017 following which the accused was arrested from Sikandarpur in Gurugram, police said.
