Chhattisgarh Power Companies’ chairman Shailendra Kumar Shukla claimed that till April 2019 around 26.50 lakh consumers of the state got benefits of the government’s move to slash power tariff by half.

It has also provided further relief to the consumers living below poverty line and other domestic users.

Shukla said that in the state more than 19.93 lakh BPL connections were provided.

Similarly, under the single-bulb free power distribution scheme, the limit of 30 units per family consumption has been retained but those beneficiaries consuming more than 30 units prescribed limit are being charged on the extra units consumed. But the bill generated is being reduced to half for the consumers.

He added that the scheme’s benefit has been denied to the power bill defaulters and those not having paid bill for long periods. But, as soon as the consumer clears the pending bills, they once again become eligible for the scheme.

The state government directed Chhattisgarh State Power Companies to reduce by half the power bill up to the consumption of 400 units per consumer from March 1.

Chairman said for those consumers who were charged on alternative flat rate, the electricity bill is charged at Rs 50 per month.

Before the power bill half scheme was introduced, on basis of 1 KW agreement load, for the BPL and flat rate scheme, consumers were paying Rs 100 per month as power tariff.
