A 28-year-old man was arrested in a hit-and-run incident, after the accused driving a Mercedes-Benz allegedly hit a motorcycle carrying two employees of food chain McDonalds at ring road opposite crematorium Punjabi Bagh, severely injuring the duo and fled the scene early morning on Saturday, police said.
According to police, a police control room (PCR) call was received at around 2.30 am on Saturday regarding an accident on Ring road opposite crematorium Punjabi Bagh.
Police found two injured persons at the spot, and they were rushed to ESI Hospital, Basai Darapur. During investigation, it was found that the duo identified as Ravinder (23) and Rohit (24) were returning from Murthal on their TVS apache motorcycle, when they reached opposite Punjabi Bagh crematorium.
The driver of an unknown car came from behind, rash and negligently, hit them and fled from the spot. However, the number plate of the offending vehicle fell on the spot, because of the impact of the hit. The vehicle was found registered on the name of Manjit Singh and his son Gagandeep (28) was driving the Mercedes-Benz.
“A case under sections 279 and 337 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered and investigation was taken up. The accused has been arrested in this case,” said a senior police official.
