The three-day SPIC MACAY State Convention hosted by Unison World School concluded with glittering performances by renowned artists on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering, the State minister of Women and Child Welfare, Rekha Arya expressed her delight at being a part of the cultural extravaganza. “India is an amalgamation of various cultures. If we need to understand the foundation of music, we need to listen to cultural and folk music. It provides base to our music foundation,” she further added.

The third day of the convention witnessed performances by artists such as flautist Ronu Majumdar, Carnatic vocalist Sikki Gurucharan, Hindustani vocal by Vidushi Tulika Ghosh and Gurubani by Alankar Singh.

Addressing the students’, flautist Ronu Majumdar said, “Flute is a life saving sound that has therapeutic effect.” Vidushi Tulika Ghosh’s performance on ‘Sadhguru Raho Mann Mein Mere’ and ‘Naiya Paar Karo Meri’ received much appreciation.

The young Carnatic singer Gurucharan gave a lecture demonstration to students. He said, “There is a perfect balance between modernity and tradition.

There is similar balance between book knowledge in extempore and balance between different speeds.”  He presented music by Tyagraja in Roopak Taal and Jaganmohini Raga. The evening performances included Tabla, puppet show, vocals, Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Garhwali folk, Odissi and Chhau. Speaking on the occasion, SPIC MACAY Uttarakhand secretary Vidya Vasan said, “The SPIC MACAY state convention was conceptualised to promote Indian music and art in all forms. During the conclusion, stage was also provided to students who learnt the desired art form from their ‘gurus’.”
