3 held for smuggling 2K quarters of illicit liquor

In two separate incidents on Tuesday, three persons were arrested during picket checks at Jasola Vihar and Shaheen Bagh Metro Station, for allegedly smuggling 1,920 quarters of illicit liquor. Two vehicles, one country-made pistol and one live cartridge were recovered from the accused persons.

In the first incident, two accused persons were arrested at around 11.15 pm on Tuesday by patrolling staffs of Sarita Vihar police station near Shaheen Bagh Metro Station. The duo was arriving from Jasola Village area, when picket staff signaled them to stop.

According to police, instead of stopping the driver hit the barricade and fled the scene. They were however intercepted near Jasola red light. Cornered the duo got down the car and threatened police team with a country made pistol, but police staff were able to hold off both the persons.

“The accused persons were later identified as Rajbir, (40) and Akhilesh, (32) and one live cartridge was also recovered from the possession of accused Akhilesh. The Country pistol was snatched from accused Rajbir and on checking the car, 12 cartons containing 576 quarters of Asli Masaledar Santra Sharab for sale in Haryana only were found in the car,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Chinmoy Biswal.

In the second incident, during vehicle checking at Jasola Vihar, 28 cartons comprising 1344 quarters of Besto Whisky ‘for sale in Haryana only’ were found in a Maruti Baleno car. The driver of the vehicle identified as Musharaf Ansari (35) was arrested by Sarita Vihar police staff, and the vehicle and liquor were seized.

“During sustained interrogation accused Musharaf Ansari disclosed that a few months ago he met one Sandeep at Lal Kuan offered Musharaf Ansari to work for him. Sandeep persuaded Ansari to transport liquor from Lal Kuan to Kalindi Kunju to and in return offered him Rs 1000 per trip.

In order to earn quick money, accused Musharaf Ansari agreed to work and started smuggling liquor,” the DCP said.
