nA 30-year-old man has been arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly supplying illegal arms and ammunitions to criminals in Delhi and its peripherals. Police said they have also recovered 30 illegal country-made pistols and 50 cartridges from the possession of the accused.
The accused has been identified as Asin alias Boby, a resident of district Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh (UP).
According to Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Northern Range, on November 21, specific inputs were received that Asin would come near Golden Jublee Park, Geeta Colony underpass, to deliver a huge consignment of illegal arms and cartridges to his close contact in Seelampur.
“Acting on the inputs, a trap was laid and Asin was arrested after a brief scuffle. Police recovered 30 illegal pistols and 50 cartridges (40 cartridges of .32 bore and 10 cartridges of .315 bore) and the Maruti Breeza car used for delivery of illegal arms and ammunition from the possession of the accused,” said the DCP.
“During interrogation, the accused revealed that he is indulged in this illegal trade for more than five years. He used to procure illegal firearms, ammunitions from one Afzal, a resident of Lisadi near Meerut, (UP) and further he used to supply them to various criminals, gangsters in Delhi-NCR areas at high prices,” said the DCP.
“In the present year alone, Asin claimed to have supplied more than 200 pistols and 1000 cartridges to various contacts in Delhi,” said the DCP.
Explaining the modus operandi of the accused DCP said that initially he used to supply illegal weapons by travelling in public transport but due to strict and random checking by police at various places, he started using stolen luxury vehicles for the smuggling of illegal weapons, as transporting illegal weapons in luxury vehicles is much easier as police does not stop such vehicles often.
