32 polling stations with balloons to mark democracy grand success

In order to facilitate the electors and the polling staff to make the festival of democracy a grand success, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) set up 32 model polling stations, decorating it with balloons, set of furniture and other civic amenities.

The initiative was taken as per the instructions issued by the Chief Election Officer, Delhi and subsequent orders issued by the SDMC Commissioner Dr Puneet Kumar Goel, a senior SDMC official said.  Goel ordered the officers and staff concerned to leave no stone unturned in providing all required facilities and temporary infrastructure to facilitate the electors and the polling staff to make the festival of democracy a grand success, he said. 

The official said that staffs deployed helped aged and physically challenged persons to cast their votes. “The civic body had arranged 32 nine seated sofa sets, 3200 chairs and 128 tables provided in equal number at the these stations. 

The civic body also commissioned total 5133 polling stations in all its four zones. Out of these, 1167 such stations were set up in South Zone, 1258 in Central Zone, 1241 in Najafgarh and 1467 in West Zone. 

Apart from this adequate availability of the drinking water, shamianas, shades to give protection from the heat, voter assistance booths, ramps, medical kits, electricity, proper signage, toilets, crèches and queue management teams did their best in helping the voters, the official added. 

The civic officers also visited a number of booths to resolve the glitches if any. The Commissioner has commended the efforts of the Additional Commissioner (Election) Ramesh Verma, Zonal deputy Commissioners and other officers to make it successful.
