32-yr-old held for Tik Tok firing

The Delhi Police has arrested a 32-year-old man who had allegedly posted a Tik Tok video, brandishing a pistol and then firing during his birthday celebration. The incident occurred on Saturday in Central Delhi’s Chandni Mahal area.

The accused identified as Faizan, a resident of Suiwalan area in Chandni Mahal. A video went viral on different social media platforms in which a person is firing in the air with a weapon in his hand. “The video was first uploaded on Tik-Tok and later on, the video went viral on different social media websites such as whatsapp, facebook and after watching and examining the video, the place of occurrence was found to be a public street in Suiwalan, Chandni Mahal,” said a senior police official.

According to Mandeep Singh Randhawa, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Central district, on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, information about a video of firing with arms in the air and uploading it on Tik-Tok in the area of Suiwalan, Chandni Mahal came into notice of police personnel at Chandni Mahal police station.

“Further a team was deputed to inquire into the matter and take legal action at once. After thorough examination, it was found that the incident took place in Suiwalan, Chandni Mahal in the evening of Saturday while Faizan was celebrating his 32nd birthday,” said the DCP.

“After shooting the video, he uploaded it on TikTok and when the same got viral, he disappeared from his house and hid himself to evade his apprehension. Being a sensitive case, the police team immediately swung into action and Faizan was apprehended after police team received specific inputs regarding his hideout at Akhade Wali Gali,” said the DCP adding that a country made pistol was recovered from his possession, which was used in alleged firing for making the video.

“A case under section 336 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25, 27/54/59 of the Arms Act was registered at Chandni Mahal police station. During interrogation, the accused revealed that on the eve of his 32nd birthday, he planned his birthday celebration in a different way and making it special. So, he took a country made pistol from a person of Chandni Mahal area and recorded the alleged video and further uploaded the same on Tik-Tok, to make himself famous on social-media and society,” said the DCP.

“Further investigation is underway and efforts are being made to ascertain the source of  the illegal weapon,” said the DCP.
